Description

Real-life stories from the Home Front during the Second World War in Barrow. "We’d had a tragedy in this house – there was no air raid shelter when the Trevelyan went down – we were sat in this room when the warning went and my mother was very nervous. We finished up under the stairs in the cubby hole. All that we heard was like someone breaking glass. My father saw the plane going up the street. When the neighbours came in Mother said, “I’m buried alive”. All the windows were in and the room was covered in soot, half the wall down. I don’t know how many people were killed in there that night."
